late nights at the bullfight

Here is the finished drawing for a large scale piece I just finished. Which took 10 + hours to complete the first phase, then comes the fun parts of placing colour followed by linework. Spending that much time in a dark room, enjoying the glow of a light table. Then the lights come on, can't help but start dancing the "happy dance"

revisiting the old with the new

Here are some new photos of ones previously taken with my camera phone with my camera. The camera itself is not the greatest but gets the job done.  Been working on a large piece that past few days, which are really late night to early mornings. Also, I have a solo show planned in 2009 that I'm going to start paintings for shortly. Enjoy the weekend!

move in may

Just finished moving from one studio space to another. It was a bit of a challenge to start up on new work right away after getting settled. One thing to mention is that when you organize something into a new system, you now have to remember that new system of organization and placement... needless to say that there has been some humorously frustrating moments of obvious-right-before-my-very-eyes lately.

Here is a bit of this and that I'm currently working on. Forgive the poor quality, I've been using my camera on my phone to take the photos, reminds me, I should keep my point and click stowed in my bag.

more photos as progress continues. Hopefully with better quality.

The man himself, Patrick Dunford

Victoria Nikkel, who did a great write-up of my piece and interview for the show

There is a time when my peeps come down and we all have patterned scarves on.  Hence, the first outlaw photo of the Patterned Scarf gang. Good times!

Ended up getting home late, later than I thought I would. If this event becomes an annual one, then I'm all for it!

Thank you to all who came to the show!

in-transit show

Here is the handbill for the upcoming April 25th show that I will be a part of. If you are in the neighborhood or not (I'd be completely blown away if anyone comes in from out of town... I'm talking to you Ms. Willows!) I'll be really happy for any familiar faces.

Just talked to my framer and my piece is all ready for this show. I'm getting excited. I'm pretty sure I'll be snapping some photos during the opening evening.

More images and updates are coming this weekend. Plus, photos from my voyage to Minneapolis.

the curse of the little long while

Greetings, sorry that the blog hasn't been kept up-to-date, but that's alright. It is time to regain some continuity and contemporary from the the hiatus that I've been on.

What's new? A new year, a new season so here we go. I was recently included in the local "7 Inch Art Show", which was a pretty unique, two day event. If it becomes an annual thing, I will try a participate every year!

(these are two of the three that I submitted)

So, now I'm in the middle of moving from one studio space to another (across and down the hall). I'm excited to start working on a new phase of this blog, art-production and library-ing. The library lives on, very much so. In fact, here is two works, one of which will be in another show (with a publication) later this April. I'll take some photos/candids of the event. Here is what it looks like before framing and before I signed it.

For the publication side of it, there was an interview with Victoria Nikkel, very great conversation about the process, the thought of the theme with the work, etc... it was great. I'll have more about it as it comes about.

more sooner than later.
Cheers! Happy Days!

Ps. I'll be re-designing the blog to be more fit for my vision.

emergent properties

"Emergence is the process by means of which a number of divergent elements are synthesized and organized into a new form. As a concept it has been particularly prominent in evolutionary theory. However, it is also widely deployed in symbolic interactionism, which also aims to capture the processual and adaptive nature of social life. In the writings of both George Herbert Mead and Herbert Blumer the interaction of body, mind, self, and society constantly leads to emergence. From this point of view, society itself is an emergent, as are all social objects.
...so can language be viewed in the same way? That is something that I am working on. Connecting to see if the dots point in this direction. I am conducting a dialogue with a fellow of great grasp of thought and ideas, which I will record and reproduce here to share any discoveries developed and discussed.
Been toiling away at the books lately. Will have images posted up to share soon!
Hope all is well,
D. White"
